Overview
The Joint University Microelectronics Program (“JUMP”) invites you to submit a proposal in response to our Mid-program Realignment (“MPRA”).
Research Needs
Our research needs are outlined in the JUMP Research Needs Document. Researchers should carefully review this document.
Proposal Guidelines
Use a minimum of 10-point font size, and proposals must be submitted via the OpenWater web app by September 14, 2020 @ 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT. The overview of research is limited to 4 pages including references. Submissions not in compliance with all guidelines will be excluded from consideration.
Please include the following identifying information in your Proposal:
- Project title
- Investigator(s) and university
- Principal investigator's contacts (telephone number, mailing address, and e-mail address).
Please address the following topics in your Proposal:
- Targeted Need: Emphasize the area and problem to be addressed; match the most relevant topic addressed in the research needs document. In particular, answer the following 3 questions:
- How does the research relate to the needs outlined in the Research Needs Document?
- How is the research related to existing efforts in the Center and/or in JUMP?
- How is the research aligned to the Center's Grand Challenges (V) and/or Benchmarking (H) goals?
- Approach: Present your strategy for addressing the problem. Describe important findings from any research to date. Describe how your proposed research would advance the state of the art and be useful to SRC member companies. For example, value may include information or the basis for further research, methods, software, or hardware.
- Objective and Results: What you plan to accomplish in a 2-year period. What are the anticipated outputs of a successful effort? Where you believe the outgrowth of the research may yield significant results that could require hardening or commercialization for optimal use by SRC members, identify the expected outgrowth, its use, and target market.
- Education: Provide details on how the proposed approach might stimulate innovation on the part of graduate students or researchers.
- Funding Request and Participants: Plan for yearly budget should include overhead charges by your institution. Besides faculty, please also indicate the number of students supported and their degrees pursued.
- Funding Leverage: Leverage funding applicable to the proposed research.
- Background IP: Identify any blocking pre-existing intellectual property on which new results will be based.
Contract Awardees will be expected to:
- Define deliverables and provide updates that help JUMP sponsors easily assess how the research is progressing.
- Interact with JUMP liaisons, including participation in annual reviews, topical workshops, e-Workshops, and task-level updates coordinated by the Center(s) at ~6 week intervals.
- Submit publications, posters, thesis, etc. resulting from the sponsored research.
- File patents in promising areas of research.
- Submit reports required for program compliance. This includes maintaining accurate student profiles of any JUMP student researchers.
- Put forward a top-tier research agenda while also being mindful of the STEM-education and employment initiatives of JUMP sponsors.
